Wednesday also marked the final day of preliminary play in the Canada regional, which utilizes a round-robin format rather than a modified double-elimination tournament. The top-four teams at day's end advance to the semifinals Friday.

Southeast Region Championship Game

Tennessee (Goodlettsville Baseball Little League) is heading to Williamsport following a dominant 15-3 triumph over Georgia (Peachtree City American Little League) to claim the Southeast title.

After winning its first three games by a combined six runs, Tennessee came out on a mission to avoid another nail-biter in the final. It scored five runs in the opening inning, all of which came with two outs, to put Georgia behind the eight ball immediately.

Georgia started chipping away at the lead, scoring three runs over the next to innings to get back within two. Alas, Tennessee scored four more runs in the third to break the game wide open. It added six more in the fourth to clinch the victory via the mercy rule.

Ethan Jackson smacked two homers for the Southeast champions. Tanner Jones added five RBI and three runs scored from the leadoff spot as part of the offensive explosion.

Little League confirmed Tennessee's spot in the 16-team LLWS field:

Elijah Jones, Michael Wright and Christopher Buchanan for Georgia, which ends up falling just short of the ultimate goal. A few untimely errors, causing nine of the 15 runs to fall in the unearned category, allowed the game to slip away.

Meanwhile, Tennessee will open Little League World Series play with a game against the Northwest champion on Aug. 18.

Southwest Region Championship Game

After putting up a fight in the first inning, New Mexico (Eastdale Little League) had no answer for the high-powered Texas West (McAllister Park American Little League) offense, falling 13-3 in the Southwest final.

Texas West opened the game with two runs in the top half of the first, and New Mexico responded with three runs to take the lead.

But Blake Compton hit a solo home run to tie the game in the second, and Orion Medina gave Texas West a 4-3 lead in the third. The team then broke things open with a six-run fourth inning. Texas West added three more insurance runs in the sixth.

Medina led the team with three RBI, while Compton, Rilan Quinones, Matthew Flores-King and Dominic Tellis each finished with two RBI.

Tellis did well to settle down on the mound after his shaky opening to the game. He went five innings, allowing four hits and striking out six batters.

Texas West will have to wait until Aug. 19 to make its Williamsport debut. It draws the winner of the Great Lakes region in its first game.

Midwest Region

Iowa (Johnston Little League) punched its ticket to Saturday's Midwest championship game with an impressive 7-1 triumph over Nebraska (Kearney Little League).

Michael Siemer put together one of the top individual performances of American qualifying by shining both at the plate and on the mound. He crushed a three-run homer in each of the first two innings to tally six RBI and tossed five innings of one-run ball while striking out eight.

JT Garcia and Jack Emanuel both added two hits apiece for Iowa. Tyler Moore relieved Siemer in the sixth and closed out the contest with two strikeouts in a scoreless frame.

Max Myers provided the only offense for Nebraska with a solo home run in the fourth. It wasn't nearly enough to keep pace with the high-powered Iowa offensive attack, though.

Nebraska remains alive in the tournament despite the loss. It will face the winner of Thursday's clash between Kansas and Minnesota in the semifinals. A victory in that game would set up a rematch with Iowa in the title game.

Meanwhile, Iowa gets a couple of days off to rest its pitchers and prepare for the final. The team has outscored its opponents 16-1 so far in the regional and will be the favorite Saturday, regardless of which team survives the journey through the one-loss bracket.

Canada Region

Alberta (Lethbridge Southwest Little League) clinched a berth in the semifinals with a lopsided 10-0 victory over Atlantic (Sydney and District #1 Little League).

After a scoreless first inning, the Alberta bats came alive with a four-run second and Atlantic couldn't cool them off until the mercy rule was applied after the fourth frame. Nathan Ritchie led the way with three RBI while Jaxon Filipenko and Teigen Parenteau each knocked in two.

Filipenko and Parenteau also shared duties on the mound. They pitched two innings apiece, giving up just a single hit and striking out six en route to the shutout.

Matthew MacDonald posted the only hit for the Atlantic squad, which finishes the tournament without a win. It had a couple close calls along the way, but just couldn't get the clutch hitting it needed in order to remain in title contention.

Meanwhile, SWLL Majors AAA spotlighted Alberta's victory to ensure a semifinal spot:

Vancouver, which is serving as the regional host, British Columbia and Quebec are also moving on to the final four, though the seedings aren't yet determined. Ontario could still finished tied with Alberta at 3-3, but lost in the head-to-head matchup on the first day of the tournament.

The biggest key for Alberta in the knockout rounds will be its pitching. The team allowed 37 runs in three games against its fellow semifinalists in the round-robin stage. That obviously won't be good enough moving forward if it wants a spot in the LLWS.

British Columbia (Whalley Little League) finished the first stage of the tournament with a 5-1 record after a hard-fought 4-2 win over Ontario (Port Arthur National Little League).

B.C. rushed out to a 4-0 lead after two innings. Cleanup hitter Haiden Letzing opened the scoring with a two-run homer in the first. Carter Spencer doubled the advantage in the second frame with a triple that plated two more runs.

Ontario, which just learned about an hour earlier that it had been eliminated, continued to fight, though. Alex Gauthier and Mike Danchuk each knocked home a run in third to trim the lead back to two.

The British Columbia bullpen came up huge to slam the door. Brandon Chiasson and Letzing combined to pitch 3.2 scoreless frames while allowing one hit and no walks with four strikeouts to preserve the narrow lead.

Now the team can sit back and watch the final round-robin game between Vancouver and Quebec, which will determine the seeds for the knockout rounds.

A seven-run second inning propelled Vancouver (Hastings Community Little League) to a 14-4 win Wednesday over Quebec (Diamond Baseball Academy Little League).

Quebec took an early 2-0 lead in the second, but Vancouver sent 11 hitters to the plate in the bottom half of the inning. Seven Vancouver batters touched home plate. Liam MacLean led off the inning with a solo home run, and his teammates didn't let up from there.

MacLean finished the game 2-for-3 with two RBI and one run scored. Nicola Barba was the offensive standout for the hosts. He went 2-for-2, driving in six runs and scoring two more.

Mid-Atlantic Region

New York (Maine-Endwell Little League) won its third game in four days, the latest being an 8-2 victory over Washington, D.C. (Capitol City Little League), to become the first team to reach the Mid-Atlantic championship game.

D.C. took a 1-0 lead in the first frame, but New York responded with eight unanswered runs over the next four innings to take complete control of the contest. Jack Hopko and Brody Raleigh both homered for N.Y., which has shown it can win both high-scoring and low-scoring games.

Ryan Harlost bounced back after giving up a run in the first to put together a quality start. He allowed just one earned run over 5.1 innings with six strikeouts. Conner Rush came on to finish the job for New York as D.C. tried to rally, securing the last two outs.

D.M. Jefferson scored the only two runs for Washington, which registered just two hits. The offense couldn't get out of first gear after a promising first trip to the plate, and it allowed New York to pull away.

The team could still get a chance at payback, though. D.C. drops into the one-loss bracket, where it will play the winner of Delaware and Pennsylvania in a de facto semifinal Friday.

New York moves directly into the title game Saturday. That gives the team a couple days to rest the pitching staff, but it will have to hope the time off doesn't cool down its bats.

Great Lakes Region

Kentucky (Bowling Green Eastern Little League) advanced to the Great Lakes regional championship following an 11-6 win over Wisconsin (Little Leaguers of Kenosha-American Little League).

John Guthrie's two-run home run in the top of the fourth put Kentucky ahead 7-6, and it didn't look back from there. Isaiah Head pitched two nearly perfect innings to seal the win. He faced seven batters and sat down six on strikes.

All is not lost for Wisconsin following Wednesday's defeat. The team still has a chance to advance to Williamsport, but its margin for error is now nonexistent. It will need to beat the winner of Ohio-Michigan to get out of the loser's bracket, and then it would still have to overcome Kentucky in the Great Lakes title game.

New England Region

In by far Wednesday's most dramatic game, Rhode Island (Warwick North Little League) scored seven runs in the bottom of the sixth to earn a 10-7 comeback victory over Massachusetts (Wellesley South Little League).

With his team down a run, Kenny Rix hit a grand slam for the walk off. The Providence Journal's Bill Koch shared a photo of Rhode Island's celebration at home plate:

Domenic Brazeau's performance on the mound shouldn't be overlooked. He entered the game in the fifth with a runner on second and nobody out. Rhode Island was already down 6-3 to that point, and Massachusetts had a chance to break the game open.

Instead, Brazeau got out of the inning without allowing another run, and while he gave up a solo home run to Matt Lussier in the sixth, he went 1.2 strong innings, which put Rix in a position to be the hero.

Rhode Island advanced to the New England regional championship game with Wednesday's win.

Northwest Region

Oregon (Bend North Little League) booked its place in the Northwest region semifinal Wednesday with a 15-0 win over Montana (Mount Sentinel Little League).

Every single Oregon player registered a hit, and as a team, Oregon finished with 21 hits for the game. Bowen Nelson was 3-for-4 with three runs scored, while Blaine Causey went a perfect 3-for-3 with five RBI.

The trio of Julian Mora, Chase Terry and Zack Reynolds combined to allow three hits and strike out six batters in five innings.

Oregon will return to the diamond Friday. It will get the loser of Thursday's semifinal between Idaho and Washington.
